Patriot Pete
Since 2005, Patriot Pete has been a fixture at the Catonsville Celebrations Event including the July 4th Parade. Wearing a red, white and blue Colonial outfit with a three cornered hat, knee-length breeches and buckled shoes, Patriot Pete has become a crowd favorite. He’s over 7 feet tall and his bulky, larger-than-life head makes it difficult to maneuver. Pete is always accompanied by a volunteer to help him negotiate steps and crowds.
Patriot Pete has been representing the Celebrations Committee in the parade, at the annual arts festival, at fundraising roadblocks and when Santa comes to town every November.
How does Patriot Pete keep his cool on July 4th, when temperatures are above 90 degrees? He wears a vest with ice packs to keep his body temperature cool and a backpack with a drinking straw to keep him hydrated. His headpiece has a small fan at the top to keep air flowing through the costume.
